How to Handle Fuzzy Matches in Crowdin?

Hey everyone! :waving_hand:

I’ve been using Crowdin for a while now, and I recently ran into an issue with fuzzy matches in translations. Sometimes, when Crowdin suggests a fuzzy match, it’s close but not quite accurate. I’m not sure whether to edit the suggestion manually or accept it and tweak it later.

My main concerns:

  1. Does editing fuzzy matches affect the Translation Memory :trade_mark: for future suggestions?
  2. Is there a way to fine-tune fuzzy match settings to get better suggestions?

How do fuzzy matches in Crowdin impact translation accuracy, and can they be optimized for better results?

Looking forward to your insights! :rocket:

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out with your questions about fuzzy matches in Crowdin. Let’s address your concerns:

  1. Editing fuzzy matches does indeed affect the Translation Memory. When you edit a fuzzy match and approve it, the revised translation is saved in the TM, which can then be used for future suggestions, improving the TM’s accuracy over time.

  2. While there isn’t a direct way to fine-tune fuzzy match settings, you can generate a TM Match report before starting the translation to determine fuzzy matches and estimate costs. This can help you understand how the TM is being leveraged. Additionally, by using the Pre-translate option, 100% matches will be restored, which can help with consistency.

  3. Fuzzy matches are designed to assist translators by providing suggestions that are close to the source text. The accuracy of these suggestions can vary, but they are generally intended to speed up the translation process.
