I’m already exceeding the crowdin two letter code for languages. There are only 676 possible variants and in my list over languages there are 7130 languages. I have already difficulty finding two letter codes when adding custom languages. Can you do something to make this not mandatory or expand it into three letter code so it’s possible to add more languages?
For instance, all combinations for the starting letter t is taken. There are only 2 left and I just took 1 of these and will take the last one soon. Which mean I cannot add any language starting with t in the future.
As for now, we don’t have any plans to change default language codes or the logic of their setup. But you can add as many custom languages as you need:
May I wonder what is the reason for having 7000+ target languages? As far as I know, even the most popular MT engines rarely support more than 150-250 languages.
Hello,
Well, I cannot add as many languages as want since there is a physical limit in two letters code. And if I try to add a custom language with a two letter code that already exist, that language is not added. Which mean I have to delete the language and guess for two letter combinations until I find one that is free. So it’s actually not true that I can add as many custom languages as I need.
So fare I have only come to 14 languages, but working on 35 languages and of them, I have added 10 custum languages and already met this limitation.
I am in contact with people in India who wants to use the app there and just in India there are more than 1000 languages…
I have people around the world translating it manually since as you said, these languages are not automatically translated into their language. I guess this project will be Crowdins biggest project regarding number of languages.
Why that many languages? Well children around the world are lacking books and content in their language or a language they can understand. So in a way this is a huge school project to give children around the world something to read in their language. It will be used in Sunday Schools and Schools around the world. That’s why I need it in that many languages.
If you didn’t know, part of the Bible is translated into 3658 languages. I am in contact with one of these global organizations who translate the Bible into these languages and some of theme want to translate my app into their language.
Perfect. That was a very good clarification. This will help a lot. I taught that the Crowdin code only was two letter since the example only had two letters. But with 10 letters it is no problem.
