We’d like to suggest a small but impactful improvement to the notification system around string comments and Discussions.
What currently exists (and works well):
Crowdin already sends notifications for:
- Content Issues (created or resolved)
- @mentionsmentions in comments and Discussions
- Discussion updates — but only to the topic author or users who replied
The gap we noticed:
When multiple contributors participate in a string comment thread or Discussion, only the person who created the topic (or replied) gets notified of new updates — and only if @mentionedhey’re @mentioned. In practice, many users reply to a comme@mentiont without using @mention, simply because it’s easy to overlook. As a result, the original commenter and other participants never know the thread was updated, unless they manually revisit the string.
This creates a silent gap in collaboration, especially in active projects with multiple language teams.
What we’re suggesting:
- Auto-notify all participants in a string comment or Issue thread when a new reply is adde@mention, without requiring an @mention.
- Same behavior for project Discussions — notify all users who replied to a topic, not just the topic author.
- The comment field already includes a placeholder “Reply or mention others with @” however, it disappears as soon as the user starts typing, making it easy to overlook. A more persistent UX cue (such as a subtle inline reminder or a tooltip) could help ensure contributors actually use @mention when replying.
This would significantly reduce the risk of important feedback or corrections going unnoticed, and encourage more active collaboration across language teams.
